When is the International Programmers’ Day in 2018?

The International Programmers’ Day will be on January 7, 2018, a Sunday.  In Russia, the International Programmers’ Day will be on September 13, 2018, a Thursday.

The International Programmers’ Day is always observed annually on January 7th..  In Russia, the International Programmers’ Day is always celebrated on September 13th ( September 12 in leap year).

History of the International Programmers’ Day:

The International Programmers’ Day is officially recognized in Russia since 2009.  Employees of a software company, Parallel Technologies, proposed that this day be recognized in honour of the value of their profession to mankind.  Valentin Balt and Michael Cherviakov advanced their proposal by collecting many endorsing signatures from Russia’s populace.

In July 24, 2009, Russia’s Ministry of Communications and Mass Media issued a draft of an executive order on a new professional holiday, the Programmers’ Day.  This was signed into a law on September 11, 2009 by Russia’s president, Dmitry Medvedev, to be observed every 256th day of each year.  Since then on, other countries also observed it.  In the United States of America, it is observed on the 7th day of each year.

Purpose and celebration of the International Programmers’ Day:

The world recognizes the value of the programmers’ work.  Because of their work, life had been easier in so many aspects.  At work, it improved efficiency cutting on labour cost significantly.  At home, chores became hustle-free and security more effective.  Even social interaction had been facilitated despite time, location and cultural differences.

The International Programmers’ Day is celebrated simply by a greeting programmer office mates.  Recognizing them in online forums and social media is also appropriate.  Just a mere “Hello” or “Thank you” can be a nice way to show appreciation for the programmers’ contribution to the world’s way of life.

The International Programmers’ Day will be on January 7, 2019, a Monday.  In Russia, the International Programmers’ Day will be on September 13, 2019, a Friday.
