INTERNATIONAL EARTH DAY 2017

Earth is our one and only home planet. Over the years, we have been so busy with our lives we have neglected caring for the earth that gives us all that we need. International Earth Day is a celebration of all the benefits of Mother Nature and a special day to inspire greater awareness towards environmental conservation.

International Earth Day 2017

International Earth Day 2017 will happen on April 22, 2017, a Saturday.

International Earth Day happens every 22nd of April.

International Earth Day Origin

The first ever move to have an Earth Day was made by peace activist John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference held in San Francisco. It was initially proposed to have an equinox Earth Day to be celebrated on the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere which is March 21, 1970.

The International Earth Day we know today was founded and first organized by Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, in hopes of promoting respect for the planet earth and ecology, and increasing awareness of the problems that the environment is faced with such as pollution. Senator Gaylord Nelson was later given the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for his work. Although the April 22 Earth Day was initially celebrated in the United States, it was Denis Hayes who took it to the international scale in 1990, making it an event celebrated by 141 nations.
