NATIONAL ANTHEM DAY 2017

The beauty of music is unmeasurable.  Some songs inspire us in what we may be doing.  It reminds us of memories and events we thought we had forgotten.  At times, tunes give a person comfort and strength.  Depending of the style of the song, it has the power to move a person into action.  This is a common effect to people who listens to marches or hymns, the common style for national anthems.

The Origin of the National Anthem of America:

The United States of America’s national anthem is “The Star-Spangled Banner.”  This was originally written as a poem entitled “Defence of Fort McHenry” by a lawyer, Francis Scott Key in September 14, 1814.  Using the music of the song “To Anacreon in Heaven” to the verses of the poem resulted to “The Star-Spangled Banner” which became the best loved patriotic song in America.

The Origin and Purpose of the National Anthem Day:

On March 3, 1931, a congressional resolution signed by President Herbert Hoover made the popular “The Star-Spangled Banner” as America’s National Anthem.  Each year, thereon, The National Anthem Day had been observed as a day of pride for all citizens of America.

The National Anthem Day is a holiday for enjoying a nationalistic singing of the national anthem with family and friends.  The date of its annual celebration is based on the anniversary of the promulgation of the country’s national anthem.

There are many ways in celebrating this holiday, such as, sending thank you ecards to soldiers and war veterans.  After all, it is because of this people that the citizens of the country enjoy a life of freedom.  Schools, on the other hand, organize field trips to museum events on the special day.  Businesses, public and private, hold a special flag raising ceremony as a sign of participation.

To show unity, patriotic national anthem paper chain are made and used as decorations in community centres.  At night, firework art are displayed to honour the war veterans.  Memorial Day planters, in American colours of red, white and blue, are placed on the graves of soldiers who died in action.  Creative decorative contests using red, white and blue are also hosted by certain organizations.
