WORLD BRAILLE DAY 2018

The deaf and mute, unlike the other people, had always been considered as liabilities of the society.  Due to their disabilities, education is quite difficult.  Thus, they can hardly contribute to their family and their country, as a whole.  But, as human beings, they have their rights.  It is but proper that the fortunate people of the world should do something to uplift their state of living.

World Braille Day is observed annually every 4th day of the year.

History of the Braille:

Braille is a writing and reading system based on touch currently used in 120countries worldwide.  It was created by Frenchman Louis Braille who met an accident at age of three leading to his blindness.  When he was fifteen years old, he developed a code using a non-linear alphabet in 1824.  It was based on a military code called night writing.

Used in many languages, the braille is the world’s first binary encoding system in lieu of the letters of a writing structure.  The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 required various building signage to be in braille in the United States.  In September 1999, upon the release of Version 3.0, braille had been included to the Unicode Standard.

The Purpose of World Braille Day Celebration:

January 4 is the natal day braille’s creator.  Every year, the world celebrates the World Braille Day to acknowledge the value of the simple and useful communication device for the deaf and mute.  Due to the creation of the braille, the less fortunate members of the society are given the opportunity to educate themselves and reduce their obstacles in contributing to society.

World Braille Day in the United Kingdom:

In the United Kingdom, the World Braille Day is a weeklong celebration to create awareness to its citizen.  It is celebrated to encourage the blind and partially impaired people to read and write.  In.  Through exhibitions, film showings and activities of special communities, the people of the United Kingdom celebrated the magic of the six small dots.
